Eagles Nest

Lodge and self-catering in Aus

Eagle’s Nest is situated in the foothills of the Namib Desert near the small settlement of Aus, approximately 120 km from Lüderitz. The chalets are located within the Gondwana Sperrgebiet Rand Park on the private nature reserve of Klein-Aus Vista and are about a 15-minute drive from Desert Horse Inn, which serves as the central point for reception, dining, and services. The secluded setting at 1,400 meters above sea level in the Aus Mountains offers expansive views over barren plains and rolling hills, where the landscapes of the Pro-Namib transition into the first sandy dunes of the desert.

Accommodation at Eagle’s Nest

What makes Eagle’s Nest unique is its remarkable architecture: the eight chalets are constructed from natural stone and are partly built directly into massive granite rocks or positioned between huge boulders. Each unit is individually designed and blends harmoniously into its surroundings, creating a strong sense of complete seclusion. Large panoramic openings and private verandas direct the view toward the almost endless desert landscape, spectacular sunsets, and star-filled night skies.

All chalets are designed as comfortable self-catering units. Each includes a private bathroom, kitchenette, fireplace, refrigerator, and outdoor areas with barbecue facilities. Despite their rustic character, the accommodations offer a high level of privacy and comfort.

As an alternative to self-catering, meals can be enjoyed at the nearby Desert Horse Inn or arranged as barbecue and breakfast packs.

Activities and tours at Eagle’s Nest

The surrounding area offers a wide range of activities in one of the most diverse desert ecosystems in the world. Hiking trails lead through the Aus Mountains and provide immersive nature experiences, while mountain biking routes allow for active exploration of the terrain. Guided nature drives offer insights into the flora and fauna of the succulent Karoo, and excursions in the region include visits to the famous feral horses of the Namib or to Lüderitz and the historic ghost town of Kolmanskop.
