Lodge & Camping at the Fish River Canyon
Hobas Lodge is located in southern Namibia within the impressive /Ai-/Ais Richtersveld Transfrontier Park and is considered one of the best-known starting points for exploring the Fish River Canyon. The lodge is situated only a few kilometres from the canyon, which is regarded as the second-largest canyon in the world and stretches for around 160 km through the rugged southern landscape. The entire park forms part of a transboundary conservation project between Namibia and South Africa dedicated to preserving the region’s unique desert and canyon landscapes. Visitors experience an extraordinary combination of geological diversity, desert vegetation and wildlife adapted to extreme environmental conditions.

Accommodation at Hobas Lodge and Camping
The property offers six comfortable bush chalets with private bathrooms, as well as spacious campsites that are designed close to nature and can accommodate up to eight people. Two modern ablution facilities, barbecue areas and shaded camping spots ensure comfortable conditions even during the hot summer months. Additional facilities include a restaurant, a small convenience shop and a swimming pool overlooking the surrounding landscape.
Activities and tours at Hobas Lodge and Camping
Hobas Lodge is especially well known as the starting point for the famous multi-day Fish River Canyon hike. The approximately 85 to 90 kilometre route is regarded as one of the most spectacular trekking experiences in southern Africa and follows the dry riverbed of the Fish River past massive rock formations and remote natural scenery. The hike takes place seasonally between May and September and requires good physical fitness. In addition to classic canyon hiking, the region also offers activities such as mountain biking, guided walks and nature observation. In connection with the /Ai-/Ais area, multi-day adventure programmes such as the “Desert Knights” tour are also organised, combining cycling and kayaking through the desert landscapes of the Transfrontier Park.
