The Harnas Guest Farm and Wildlife Foundation is located on Farm 418 near Gobabis in eastern Namibia. Surrounded by vast thornbush savannah, Harnas offers travelers not only an exclusive stay in the heart of the African wilderness, but also direct insight into the daily work of one of the country’s best-known wildlife foundations. Long before its integration into the N/a’an ku sê Foundation, Harnas had already stood for sustainable tourism, nature conservation, and social responsibility.

Accommodation at Harnas Guest Farm
The story of Harnas began in 1978, when Marieta van der Merwe rescued an injured baby monkey, gradually leading to the creation of a wildlife sanctuary. Together with her husband Nick, she transformed the former cattle farm into a refuge for injured, orphaned, and conflict-affected wild animals. At the same time, a close relationship developed with the San community of the region. To this day, the mission of Harnas is to protect endangered wildlife while preserving the culture and livelihood of the San people.
Guests stay in stylish natural-stone cottages, family-friendly units, or unique lodges located close to the animal enclosures. The accommodations combine rustic charm with modern comfort, creating an exclusive atmosphere in the middle of the bush. The experience is complemented by a restaurant serving high-quality meals in a relaxed setting. The result is a stay that harmoniously blends luxury, authenticity, and a close connection to nature.
Activities and tours at Harnas Guest Farm
Particularly impressive is the range of activities on offer: Guests can experience lions, leopards, cheetahs, wild dogs, and caracals up close during morning feeding tours, while gaining fascinating insight into the project’s conservation work. Game drives through the reserve, scenic sundowner excursions, and horseback experiences reveal the beauty of the Namibian landscape from different perspectives. Another highlight is the encounter with San culture at the Ancient San Skills Academy. There, visitors learn traditional survival techniques, hunting methods, medicinal plant knowledge, as well as stories and rituals of one of the oldest peoples on earth.
