Ohange Safari Lodge

Lodge, self-catering and camping in the Otavi mountains

The privately owned and family-run Ohange Safari Lodge is located approximately 30 km north of Otavi along the B1 highway, nestled within the scenic Otavi Mountains. The name “Ohange” originates from the Herero language and means “peace” – a fitting description for this nature-oriented retreat surrounded by vast bushveld landscapes, striking mountain ranges, and abundant wildlife. The lodge is an ideal stopover en route to Etosha National Park as well as a peaceful destination for guests wishing to spend several days in a tranquil setting.

Accommodation at Ohange Safari Lodge

The lodge offers ten freestanding natural stone chalets built in traditional African style with thatched roofs. Scattered across a wooded hillside, the units provide privacy and beautiful views of the surrounding mountains and the central waterhole. Each chalet features an en-suite bathroom, tea and coffee-making facilities, air conditioning or ventilation, and a covered veranda for wildlife viewing. Additional accommodation options include simple self-catering units in a converted historic stable building, as well as a variety of campsites ranging from family-friendly pitches to secluded bush camping sites situated along a wildlife corridor.

The heart of the lodge is the main building, which houses the reception area, restaurant, bar, and a spacious veranda. Many meals are served outdoors overlooking the illuminated waterhole, which attracts a variety of wildlife during both day and night. An elevated swimming pool with a sun deck and panoramic views of the Otavi Mountains provides an ideal place to relax. Wi-Fi access is also available for guests.

Activities and tours at Ohange Safari Lodge

Activities on offer include guided game drives in open safari vehicles, night drives to observe nocturnal animals, and guided morning and sundowner walks. Wildlife sightings may include giraffes, zebras, kudus, elands, and various antelope species. The area is also a rewarding destination for bird enthusiasts, with more than 250 bird species recorded in the region, including raptors, parrots, and other notable representatives of Namibia’s birdlife. In addition, the lodge offers insight into the indigenous flora of the area and its traditional uses for food, medicine, and everyday purposes.
