Restcamp north of Grootfontein
Roys Restcamp is located about 55 km northeast of Grootfontein directly on the B8 road towards Rundu and is a popular stopover for travellers heading to northeastern Namibia, the Khaudum National Park or the Zambezi Region. The family-run camp is situated on the approximately 2,800-hectare Elandsgate Farm, one of the oldest farms in the Grootfontein district. Its history dates back to 1930 and is closely linked to the Dorsland Trek, which played an important role in shaping the region. In addition to cattle farming, tourism has been part of the farm's activities since 1995.

Accommodation at Roys Restcamp
The camp is known for its creative design and charming atmosphere. Curved pathways, carefully arranged decorations and numerous handcrafted details give Roys Restcamp its distinctive character. Spacious gardens consisting mainly of indigenous vegetation provide a habitat for a variety of bird species and smaller wildlife, which can often be spotted close to the accommodation. A small floodlit waterhole attracts antelope, warthogs and many bird species.
The accommodation combines a rustic ambience with modern comforts. Guests can choose from 2 rondavels, 4 standard bungalows, 1 family bungalow and 3 guest rooms. All permanent accommodation features an en-suite bathroom, air conditioning, mosquito nets, tea and coffee-making facilities, as well as a private barbecue area, and overlooks the camp's lush gardens.
Campers will also find ideal facilities. A total of 17 campsites are set on well-maintained lawns beneath shady trees. Each site has its own barbecue area. Guests additionally have access to a sanitary block with hot water, a rustic bush kitchen and laundry facilities.
The central communal area features a thatched restaurant and bar, a swimming pool and a small curio shop. The restaurant serves traditional Boerekos dishes, reflecting culinary influences brought to Namibia by Dutch, German and French settlers.
Activities and tours at Roys Restcamp
Activities include walks through the surrounding bushveld, birdwatching and wildlife viewing at the waterhole. Roys Restcamp is also an excellent base for excursions to the Ju/'Hoansi Living Museum, located about 90 km away, where visitors can gain fascinating insights into the culture and traditional way of life of the San people.
