Surrounded by surreal rock formations, ancient Welwitschia plants and the wide, dry bed of the Swakop River, the rest camp blends rugged natural beauty with a comfortable and welcoming atmosphere.
Guests can choose from a wide variety of accommodation including bungalows, A-frame chalets, igloo-style rooms, glamping tents, standard and private campsites, as well as special group sites. This diversity makes Goanikontes Oasis equally suited to solo travellers, families, groups of friends or nature enthusiasts looking for something truly different.
Self-Catering Accommodation and Camping at Goanikontes Oasis
Goanikontes Oasis provides a wide range of accommodation styles. Guests who prefer solid walls can book one of the igloo-style bungalows. These dome-shaped units are designed to keep cool even on hot desert days and each comes with twin beds, private bathrooms and outdoor braai facilities.
The A-frame chalets offer a slightly different experience: living areas on the ground floor and cosy sleeping spaces upstairs. Some have balconies with beautiful views over the valley and riverbed.
Families and larger groups can stay in the so-called White House or family units, which provide multiple bedrooms, bathrooms and communal living areas.
For travellers who like the idea of camping but also appreciate extra comfort, the rest camp offers glamping tents. These come with either en-suite or private ablution facilities and are well suited for those who want a rustic yet relaxed experience.
The camping area itself is extensive and caters for everyone: standard shaded campsites share ablution blocks, while private campsites come with their own bathroom and kitchenette.
For bigger groups, the “Camp Brock” area provides space and facilities designed for communal camping. Across all units, shaded parking, braai areas and picnic spots are standard.

Although Goanikontes Oasis is located in the desert, it is equipped with enough facilities to make every stay comfortable. The on-site restaurant is open daily and serves hearty breakfasts and light lunches, while in the evenings guests often gather around their own braais.
A natural swimming dam in the river valley offers a refreshing dip on hot days.
Campsites and rooms are supported with reliable ablution blocks that provide hot and cold running water. Power points, shaded areas and fireplaces add to the practicality of the camping experience, and Wi-Fi is available in certain areas for those who need to stay connected.

Activities & Attractions at Goanikontes Oasis
The location of Goanikontes Oasis is a paradise for those who love exploring unique natural features. Visitors can drive or walk through the dramatic Moon Landscape, where the barren hills and valleys resemble the surface of another planet. Nearby, ancient Welwitschia plants grow in the desert, some of them estimated to be more than a thousand years old. The Swakop River bed hides the Flintstone Caves and other striking geological formations.
Birdwatchers will find many desert species in the area, while families can enjoy the small play park, the mini zoo and an obstacle course that keeps children entertained.
For a quieter pace, guests can simply relax on their terraces, go tilapia fishing in the camp’s pond, or enjoy the magnificent starry skies after sunset.
