A Unique Guided Walking Safari on the Edge of Etosha National Park

In small groups of up to 8 people, you’ll embark on an exciting walking safari in a remote part of Onguma’s 34,000-hectare private wildlife reserve, which borders the eastern edge of Etosha National Park. These guided safari walks are led by experienced and qualified guides, accompanied by rifles for your safety. This is your chance to experience Namibia’s wild and wildlife-rich nature up close and authentically on an unforgettable walking adventure!

Your accommodation will be at Onguma Trails Camp, which beautifully blends rustic Namibian charm with modern luxury. This intimate and exclusive camp features 4 beautifully designed safari tents, each with its own open-air bathroom.

Required Equipment:

Well-worn hiking boots, a hat, and sunscreen are essential items. A flashlight is recommended, and sunglasses, a camera, binoculars, and insect repellent should not be forgotten either.

Onguma Walking Trail Description

Day 1 – Arrival

Meet your guide and walking safari leader around midday at Onguma Forest Camp. You will then be transferred to Onguma Trails Camp, where you’ll enjoy a light, Namibian-style lunch and have time to relax. In the afternoon, join your guide for a short walk or alternatively a sundowner drive. End the day with a delicious dinner at Onguma Trails Camp.

Day 2 – Walking Safari

In the cool early morning hours, the guided 6–8 km walking safari begins. Along the way, you’ll stop for a hearty and plentiful bush breakfast. During this immersive walk through the Onguma Wildlife Reserve on the edge of Etosha National Park, you’ll learn how to track animals, identify edible wild plants, and uncover the secrets of the Namibian bush. Return to camp in the early afternoon for a late lunch, then relax. In the evening, gather for an interactive boma dinner followed by stargazing under the African sky.

Day 3 – Departure or Optional Extra Night at Onguma Trails Camp

Begin the day with a morning walk before enjoying a tasty breakfast and heading off.

Guests who choose to extend their stay can book an additional night at Onguma Trails Camp. On this extra day, you can either start with another 6–8 km guided walking safari through a dry, scenic riverbed - perfect for deepening your bush skills and knowledge of the natural surroundings - or opt for a relaxing Sunrise Drive.

In the early afternoon, enjoy another light lunch and some relaxation time. In the evening, Onguma’s Conservation Team offers fascinating insights into their work. A sundowner and a delicious 3-course dinner complete your Onguma Trails hiking adventure.

Day 4 – Departure

On your final day, start with an early morning walk followed by a wholesome breakfast before departure.
