Nakambale Museum
Museum of the former Finnish missionary station
The Nakambale Museum is situated in the former Finnish Missionary station Olukonda close to the town Ondangwa in the north of Namibia. The Museum was named after the Finnish missionary Martti Rautanen, whose nick name was „Nakambale“ . Rautanen became missionary in 1880 shortly after the missionary station was founded. He initiated the building of a church and a missionary house. Both buildings still exist.

The Nakambale Museum is situated in the former missionary house and mainly displays items from the Finnish missionary station, but also some artefacts of the Ovambo culture. Among other things the collection includes household items, instruments and furniture of the missionaries. Furthermore the museum hosts a complete homestead of the Ndonga, one of the language groups of the Ovambo culture. A guided tour can be booked. Some cultural performances can be arranged. These must be booked in advance.
