You should only do without a 4x4 if you are driving exclusively on tarred roads between cities in Namibia, which is mainly relevant for business travelers. As soon as you want to explore the Namib dunes, Etosha National Park, or any of Namibia’s other highlights, a 4x4 is highly advisable. It simply makes you more robust on the road. In short: A 4x4 offers greater safety, better comfort, and more flexibility.
2. Do I need an international driver’s license?
If your driver’s license is in English and has a photo, it is generally accepted. If not, it’s recommended to carry an International Driving Permit (IDP) in addition to your local license.
3. What is the minimum age to rent a car in Namibia?
The minimum age is usually 21 years, but some rental companies require drivers to be 23–25 years old. Young driver surcharges may apply for drivers under 25.
