Otavi region
The Otavi Region is located east of the Etosha National Park on the road connecting Namibias capital Windhoek and the densly populated north of Namibia and the Kavango-Caprivi Region. The three towns Otavi, Tsumeb and Grootfontein make up the so-called Otavi Triangle. In its centre lies the scenic Otavi mountain range.
Climate of the Otavi Region
The Otavi Region receives a relatively high annual rainfall with an average of 450mm – 600 mm and has a lot of natural springs. Due to the good rainfalls the region offers good opportunities for commercial farming with grain and maize, hence it is often referred to as the Maize Triangle.
Flora and Fauna of the Otavi Region
The good rainfalls result in a rich biodiversity, especially regarding the flora. More than 500 different plant species are found here. On the typical game and hunting farms a high diversity of mammals is found as well as more than 200 different bird species.
