The familiy-friendly Okonjima Plains Camp is located in the heart of the private Okonjima Nature Reserve in central Namibia, roughly halfway between Windhoek and Etosha National Park. Nestled in expansive thornbush savannah at the foot of the Omboroko Mountains, the camp enjoys an excellent setting within 22,000 hectares of wilderness and is especially renowned for its high leopard population and its close partnership with the respected AfriCat Foundation, which has been dedicated to the conservation of big cats and other endangered wildlife species since the 1990s.

Accommodation at Okonjima Plains Camp
The accommodation at Plains Camp offers a more affordable option within the Okonjima Collection while still providing comfort and tasteful design. The camp has a total of 24 rooms, including spacious View Rooms with large verandas and stylish Standard Rooms with wheelchair-friendly access. Each room is equipped with modern amenities, including an en-suite bathroom, fans, tea and coffee facilities, a fridge, and private parking.
The heart of the lodge is the so-called “Plains Camp Barn,” an open-plan barn housing the reception, restaurant, curio shop, lounge, and terrace overlooking a waterhole where wildlife can frequently be observed. A swimming pool provides a refreshing place to relax between activities.
In addition, Okonjima Omboroko Campsite offers four spacious, privately positioned campsites for self-catering guests. Each site features its own ablution facilities with a hot-water shower and toilet, a covered dining and wash-up area, an electricity supply, and a private braai (barbecue) area. A shared swimming pool and a scenic sundowner viewpoint are available for all camping guests.
Activities and tours at Okonjima Plains Camp
One of the most popular activities is leopard tracking, where guests accompany experienced guides in search of leopards while gaining fascinating insight into ongoing scientific research. In addition, day and night game drives are offered, providing opportunities to see hyenas, rhinos, antelope, and a wide variety of bird species. Guided walks through the reserve allow for immersive encounters with nature and offer spectacular views of the landscape. Another highlight is a visit to the AfriCat Carnivore Care Centre, where visitors can learn more about predator conservation and the ecological challenges facing Namibia.
