Tented Camp in the Kalahari
The Teufelskrallen Tented Lodge is located in the southern Kalahari between Kalkrand and Mariental, on the westernmost dune ridge of a private nature reserve covering around 10,000 hectares. The secluded setting among the characteristic red sand dunes, vast thornveld savannah and ancient camel thorn trees makes this small lodge an ideal retreat for nature lovers and a comfortable stopover along Namibia’s north-south route. As part of the Ondili Lodges collection, the lodge represents a nature-oriented and sustainably focused approach to tourism.

Accommodation at Teufelskrallen Tented Lodge
The lodge features six tented units, each positioned with generous spacing along the dune ridge to provide privacy and uninterrupted views of the surrounding landscape. Every tent offers comfortable beds, a refrigerator, tea and coffee-making facilities, mosquito nets, a fan and a private shaded viewing terrace overlooking the vast savannah. The private bathroom with shower and toilet is connected to the tented unit by a short wooden walkway.
The central guest area is located approximately 3 km from the tents in the lovingly restored old farmhouse. It houses the reception, restaurant, a cosy coffee garden, a lounge area with complimentary Wi-Fi and a swimming pool with shaded seating areas. The lush garden creates a beautiful contrast to the dry Kalahari surroundings and provides a relaxing space between excursions. Breakfast and dinner are served in the historic farmhouse.
Activities and tours at Teufelskrallen Tented Lodge
Guests can enjoy guided nature drives and game drives, offering opportunities to observe species such as oryx, springbok, ostriches, wildebeest and a variety of birdlife. Guided and self-guided walks of different lengths provide an immersive experience of the flora and fauna of the semi-desert environment. Sundowner drives to the dunes are among the highlights of a stay, offering spectacular views across the vast landscape as the sun sets over the Kalahari. Active guests can make use of marked jogging trails and mountain bike routes. In addition, visits to the devil’s claw plantations are offered, providing insights into the desert plant that gives the lodge its name and its traditional uses.
A special experience is the Trans-Kalahari Walk, a one-and-a-half-day guided trail through the red dunes of the Kalahari. This light walk takes you through wonderful semi-desert landscapes enabling the wanderer to experience the African bush with all his senses. The first sleep-over is in the beautiful Kalahari Red Dunes Lodge followed by a night in the luxurious Dune Camp.
