The Damara Mopane Lodge is located about 20 km east of Khorixas in the heart of Damaraland and serves as an excellent base for excursions to the famous rock engravings of Twyfelfontein, the Petrified Forest, or Vingerklip. Set within a wide plain at the foot of a hill, the lodge conveys the atmosphere of an African village surrounded by unspoilt nature. The surrounding Mopane woodland and expansive bush landscape create a peaceful, nature-oriented setting that captures the authentic charm of Damaraland..

Accommodation at Damara Mopane Lodge
The lodge offers 60 comfortable rooms, including family units with interleading doors as well as wheelchair-friendly accommodation. All chalets feature a private veranda overlooking the small garden, an en-suite bathroom, air conditioning, a safe, and tea- and coffee-making facilities. Additional amenities include Wi-Fi, a souvenir shop, secure parking, and a laundry service.
Developed by Gondwana Collection Namibia as a sustainable accommodation concept, the lodge combines traditional African design with modern comfort. One of its defining architectural features is the semi-circular layout of the property: a network of winding pathways connects the individual chalets to the central area, where a spacious swimming pool forms the focal point.
A particularly distinctive feature is the innovative garden concept: each of the 60 standalone chalets has its own small vegetable and herb garden. Sunflowers, spinach, and beetroot are grown there, some of which are freshly used in the kitchen. The open-plan restaurant and cosy bar blend harmoniously into the overall design, creating an inviting setting for relaxed evenings.
Activities and tours at Damara Mopane Lodge
Among the highlights of a stay at Damara Mopane Lodge is the walk to the lodge’s own viewpoint on the nearby hill. From there, guests can enjoy sweeping views over the endless Mopane woodland, especially in the evening when the setting sun bathes the landscape in warm colours. Guided birdwatching excursions are also popular, offering the chance to discover the rich birdlife of Damaraland. For active guests, marked walking trails lead through the scenic surroundings. Those wishing to explore the region in greater depth can join guided day excursions, for example to observe the rare desert elephants.
