Hoanib Skeleton Coast Camp is located in the remote Kaokoveld in northwestern Namibia, nestled within the dry riverbed of the Hoanib in the Palmwag Concession, where the rugged Palmwag region meets the dune landscapes of Skeleton Coast National Park. This spectacular scenery of rust-red mountains, vast gravel plains, sand dunes, and dry riverbeds is considered one of the most impressive wilderness areas in southern Africa. Thanks to its isolated location, the camp offers a sense of tranquillity and exclusivity while also serving as a gateway for exploring the rugged Skeleton Coast with its fog banks, shipwrecks, and seal colonies..

Accommodation at Hoanib Skeleton Coast Camp
The camp was sustainably designed and built to operate entirely on solar power. Guests can choose from eight luxurious tented suites, including seven double tents and one family unit, all featuring en-suite bathrooms and spacious wooden decks. The light natural tones and open architectural style reflect the colours and shapes of the surrounding desert landscape. From the main area with its lounge, restaurant, and swimming pool, guests overlook a nearby waterhole regularly visited by desert-adapted elephants, giraffes, and brown hyenas. The camp’s cuisine focuses on fresh regional ingredients, traditional Namibian dishes, and open-air dining experiences set against the untouched desert wilderness.
Activities and tours at Hoanib Skeleton Coast Camp
Hoanib Skeleton Coast Camp works closely with the conservancies of Anabeb, Torra, and Sesfontein and supports research and conservation programmes dedicated to desert-adapted wildlife species. Guests gain insight into ongoing research projects involving desert lions, brown hyenas, and elephants, whose ability to survive in this harsh arid environment is unique in the world. Sustainable tourism also provides economic benefits for local communities through the protection of the natural environment. The camp’s research centre presents scientific projects and explains the ecological significance of the region.
Among the highlights are extensive nature drives through the Hoanib region, where desert elephants, oryx antelopes, springbok, giraffes, ostriches, and, with some luck, lions or leopards can often be seen. Additional activities include guided walks, stargazing, and full-day excursions to the Skeleton Coast. Guests explore remote stretches of coastline, towering dunes, hidden oases, and historical remnants of the Strandlopers, former coastal inhabitants of the area. For stays of three nights or more, spectacular scenic flights over the Skeleton Coast are often available, offering breathtaking views of endless dune seas, shipwrecks, and the wild Atlantic coastline.
