Camp Kwando is idyllically situated on the banks of the Kwando River in Namibia’s Zambezi Region, formerly known as the Caprivi Strip, about 25 km south of Kongola. Nestled amid lush river landscapes, dense woodland vegetation and species-rich wilderness, it is located close to Mudumu National Park and the floodplains on the Botswana side. This setting offers impressive nature experiences in one of Namibia’s most water-rich regions.

Accommodation at Camp Kwando
Right on the riverfront are the thatched River Chalets on stilts, each featuring a private terrace, en-suite bathroom and comfortable furnishings, offering guests an immersive experience in nature. These are complemented by stylish Tree Houses, slightly elevated among the trees, with sweeping views across the floodplains all the way to Botswana. Both accommodation types are equipped with solar-powered electricity, mosquito nets and private verandas, allowing guests to enjoy the tranquillity of the surroundings in complete privacy.
The open main area with restaurant, bar, lounge, spacious wooden deck and swimming pool is the perfect place to unwind at the end of the day while overlooking the river, where hippos, crocodiles and water birds can often be seen.
The camp follows a consistent sustainability concept and now relies on approximately 95 percent solar energy. Many products are sourced locally, and an on-site organic garden provides fresh fruit and vegetables for the kitchen. This environmentally conscious approach combines comfort with respect for nature and the local community. Despite the deliberate absence of Wi-Fi, guests do not have to forgo comfort – instead, the focus is on disconnecting from everyday life and fully immersing oneself in nature.
Activities and tours at Camp Kwando
The camp offers boat trips on the Kwando River, where elephants, buffalo, hippos and a wide variety of bird species can be observed. Game drives into nearby Mudumu National Park lead into impressive wilderness inhabited by elephants, antelope and predators. For birdwatchers, the region is a true paradise, with more than 450 bird species recorded along the river. Cultural village visits are also available, offering fascinating insights into the traditional way of life in the region.
