The Ichingo Chobe River Lodge is located on the remote Impalila Island in the far northeastern corner of Namibia, where the Chobe and Zambezi Rivers meet and the borders of Namibia, Botswana, Zambia, and Zimbabwe lie in close proximity. Set within dense riverine forest directly on the banks of the Chobe River, the privately managed lodge offers a tranquil, nature-focused atmosphere with immediate access to some of Southern Africa’s most biodiverse freshwater ecosystems. Due to its close proximity to the Chobe National Park, the region is regarded as one of the premier areas for game viewing along the river.

Accommodation at Ichingo Chobe River Lodge
It consists of seven spacious safari tents, each equipped with en-suite bathrooms, air conditioning or fans, and private wooden decks. In addition, there is a larger family tent featuring multiple sleeping areas and two bathrooms. The elevated tented structures provide wide, uninterrupted views across the river and the surrounding reed beds and floodplains. The open main lodge area includes a lounge, bar, dining space, and a small swimming pool overlooking the Chobe River, where herds of elephants, hippos, and buffalo are frequently observed passing by.
Activities and tours at Ichingo Chobe River Lodge
Guests participate in boat safaris along the Chobe, Zambezi, and Kasai Channel, guided by experienced professional guides. The specially designed shallow-draft boats allow for exceptionally close wildlife encounters and are also highly regarded platforms for bird watching and photography. The region is home to more than 400 bird species, making it a major destination for ornithologists.
Guided walking excursions on Impalila Island offer insight into the island’s vegetation, wildlife, and the traditional lifestyle of its local community. A highlight of many tours is the ancient baobab tree, from whose vantage point four countries are said to be visible. The activity programme is further complemented by sundowner cruises, excursions on the Zambezi River, and day trips to Victoria Falls or the Chobe National Park.
The lodge is also widely recognized as a prime destination for tiger fishing and fly fishing. With access to more than 100 kilometres of interconnected waterways, it offers excellent year-round conditions for sport fishing enthusiasts.
