Nambwa Lodge
Lodge and Camping in the Bwabwata National Park
The exclusive Nambwa Lodge is located in the wildlife-rich Kwando Core Area of the Mayuni Conservancy and forms part of the KAZA conservation area, one of the largest transfrontier conservation regions in Africa. It is the only lodge situated directly inside Bwabwata National Park and lies on the Nambwa Peninsula, north of the well-known Horseshoe Lagoon. Built on raised wooden platforms among ancient jackalberry, sausage and knobthorn trees, the lodge allows migrating elephant herds to move freely beneath the walkways.

Accommodation at Nambwa Lodge
The lodge offers ten spacious luxury tented suites connected by elevated wooden walkways. Each suite features an en-suite bathroom, a private deck overlooking the floodplains of the Kwando River, comfortable seating areas and mosquito nets. Guests can often observe elephants, buffalo or antelope directly from their private decks. The heart of the lodge is an open viewing platform with a restaurant and lounge area offering spectacular views across the river landscape.
The Nambwa Campsite is located about 2 km away at the secluded Long Lagoon and offers four exclusive campsites in the heart of the wilderness. Each site features private ablution facilities, hot water, a kitchen area and plenty of space between neighbouring campsites. The campsite is unfenced, allowing wildlife to move freely through the area.
Activities and tours at Nambwa Lodge
The region is considered one of Namibia’s most species-rich areas, home to more than 35 mammal species and over 300 bird species. Besides large herds of elephants and buffalo, lucky visitors may also spot lions, leopards, wild dogs, as well as rare sable and roan antelope. The area around Horseshoe Lagoon is especially famous for hosting one of the country’s largest concentrations of elephants.
Activities include day and night game drives, boat cruises on the Kwando River, guided bush walks, mokoro excursions and visits to traditional villages of the Mashi culture. Particularly memorable are the afternoon drives to the floodplains, when wildlife gathers along the waterways in the golden evening light.
