Guesthouse in Omaruru
Located in the heart of the small artists’ town of Omaruru, about 250 km northwest of Windhoek, Kashana Country House sits directly on the dry Omaruru riverbed and offers an ideal base for journeys between Namibia’s coast, the Erongo Mountains and the country’s northern regions. The historic main building was originally constructed in 1907 during the German colonial era and first served as a casino for mine workers. After years of neglect, the property with its verandas, shaded courtyards and historic details was carefully restored and reopened in 2007.

Accommodation at Kashana Country House
The luxurious thatched chalets are situated along the riverbank and, depending on category, feature king-size or double beds, air conditioning, en-suite bathrooms, minibar, safe, WiFi and private verandas overlooking the surrounding savanna landscape and the Erongo Mountains. Spacious family chalets with an additional loft and several single beds are also available. The accommodation is complemented by comfortable rooms in a quiet location near the swimming pool. The stylish garden area with its swimming pool, lapa and shaded seating areas creates a relaxed atmosphere, especially during warm days.
Kashana is particularly well known for its all-day à la carte restaurant, popular not only with guests but also with locals and travelers passing through Omaruru. The cuisine combines Namibian flavours with international dishes. A special feature is the creatively designed bar, inspired by Namibian art and craftsmanship. Around the landscaped courtyard are several small shops and craft boutiques, including the Nawa-Nawa Art Center, which supports local artists and artisans and contributes directly to the region’s creative community.
Activities and tours at Kashana Country House
The surroundings of Omaruru are regarded as the cultural center of the Erongo Region and are ideal for day excursions. Visitors can explore art galleries, woodcarving studios, boutique wineries and historic buildings in town, or join guided half- and full-day tours into the nearby Erongo Mountains. The area is known for impressive rock paintings, dramatic granite landscapes and encounters with San culture. The lodge’s natural setting also offers excellent opportunities for birdwatching and leisurely walks along the Omaruru riverbed.
