Midgard Country Estate

Lodge in the Otjihavera Mountains

Located about 70 km northeast of Windhoek in the Otjihavera Mountains, the historic Midgard Country Estate combines the charm of a former farm with the comfort of a well-established country retreat. The property was acquired by the List family in 1937 and gradually evolved from a private farm into a renowned estate with a long-standing history. Even today, the original farmhouse, old stables, and various collector’s items reflect the estate’s heritage. Thanks to its proximity to Windhoek, Midgard is also an ideal place to begin or end a journey through Namibia in a relaxed and stylish setting.

Accommodation at Midgard Country Estate

The lodge offers a wide range of accommodation options, making it suitable for families, individual travellers, groups, conferences, and weddings alike. Guests can choose between modern standard and family rooms as well as luxurious suites overlooking the beautifully maintained gardens. Facilities include restaurants, bars, a traditional boma, two swimming pools, a fitness and sauna area, and a historic skittle alley. The spacious gardens along the Swakop riverbed create a surprisingly lush oasis in the otherwise dry landscape of central Namibia.

Activities and tours at Midgard Country Estate

The private nature reserve is home to giraffes, oryx antelope, kudu, wildebeest, eland, warthogs, and various smaller antelope species. Guided nature and game drives provide fascinating insights into the wildlife of the region, while hiking and mountain biking trails lead through the rugged mountain scenery. In addition, the estate offers a variety of leisure activities including tennis, volleyball, climbing, outdoor chess, table tennis, 4x4 trails, and horseback excursions. A small vintage car collection and the traditional skittle alley also provide unique experiences beyond the classic safari activities.
