Von Bach Dam
Recreational area and Windhoeks most important dam
The Von Bach Dam is located about 60 kilometres north of Windhoek, the Namibian capital and 5 kilometres southeast of the town Okahandja. It has a capacity of about 49 million m³ and is the main water supply for Windhoek.
The dam is fed by the 460 km long, ephemeral Swakop River, which flows into the Atlantic Ocean close to Swakopmund. The dam also receives water from the Omatako and Swakoppforte dams.
Not only serves the dam as important water reservoir, it is also the centre of the popular von-Bach-Recreation-Area at the foothills of the Eros Mountains. The dam is surrounded by a game park and different water sports are offered. Angling is also allowed and permits are available at the entrance.
