Guestfarm and Self-Catering at the Gamsberg mountain

Rooisand Desert Ranch is a unique Guestfarm at the foot of the magnificent Gamsberg Mountain, about 165 km south-west of Windhoek. Rooisand offers accommodation at the Guestfarm, a self-catering house at Namibia's biggest (and most advanced) telescope-astrograph-combination as well as camping facilities.

The Rooisand farm is about 12.000 ha large and consists of vast grasslands, red sand dunes and rugged mountains. The diverse scenery and the variety of possibly activities make Rooisand a truly unique experience for the Namibia traveler. Rooisand is ideally located between Windhoek and Sossusvlei.

The main building with its great garden and swimming pool offers many unique facilities. Guests are either accommodated in four comfort rooms or alternatively in a budget room close to the Tennis court. 

The camp ground offers five campsites in fantastic desert landscape each with own electricity, water and barbeque. The five sites share clean ablution facilities.

Numerous activities can be done while saying at Rooisand. 

The famous star gazing tour at Rooisand is a guided astronomical observation using one of the world’s best amateur telescopes. Explore the Namibian crystal clear sky, open star clusters, visible planets or the surface of the moon.

There is also the very nice planet hiking trail where a model of our solar system has been set up along the path stretching between the ranch and observatory.

Other activities include scenic drives, sundowner tours, excursions to rock paintings, visits to mineral sites, guided walking and Clay Pidgeon shooting. 

A special activity is the guided drone flying safari which allows guests to head out into the wilderness to capture aerial footage with their own drone. For guests who don’t have an own drone Rooisand offers flight lessons with a Mavic Pro Platinum drone. All pictures and footage taken during these flight lessons will be made available to guests.
