Camp Gecko

Camp on the foot of the Spreetshoogte Pass

The owner-run Camp Gecko enjoys a stunning secluded location at the foot of the spectacular Spreetshoogte Pass in the Namib-Naukluft Region and is an ideal stopover on the routes between Windhoek, Sossusvlei and Swakopmund. Set on an elevated position within a private 6,000-hectare reserve, the camp offers sweeping views across open plains and waterholes where wildlife can often be spotted. Despite its peaceful and remote atmosphere, Camp Gecko is conveniently accessible via the D1275.

Accommodation at Camp Gecko

Stylish safari tents, generously spaced across the savannah, provide guests with plenty of privacy. Some of the accommodation units are designed as two-storey hide-away tents featuring an elevated sleeping area with a viewing deck, offering breathtaking panoramic views over the plains. Family tents provide ample space for up to four guests and combine comfort with a close-to-nature experience. All tents feature private bathroom facilities, cozy terraces, and their own barbecue areas. The accommodation is complemented by thoughtfully designed campsites on elevated ground with wide panoramic views, each also offering private ablution facilities and barbecue areas.

Camp Gecko is committed to environmentally friendly concepts: electricity is supplied entirely by a modern solar power system, while water is sourced from the camp’s own solar-powered boreholes. At the heart of Camp Gecko is the open-plan main area, featuring a welcoming reception, comfortable seating areas, and an inviting dining space where guests can enjoy breakfast. A small pool offers refreshing relief on warm days. The natural design with open structures, warm colours, and rustic materials creates a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere.

Activities and tours at Camp Gecko

Camp Gecko is an ideal destination for nature lovers and those seeking peace and tranquility. Hiking trails across the extensive private reserve reveal fascinating views of the diverse landscape and its wildlife. Thanks to its excellent location, excursions to the Namib-Naukluft National Park and the Naukluft Mountains are also highly recommended. Guests wishing to relax on site can enjoy spectacular sunsets, crystal-clear starry skies, and the peaceful atmosphere of the savannah.
