Hoodia Desert Lodge is located on the banks of the dry Tsauchab River, southeast of the Namib-Naukluft region and only about a 20-minute drive from the entrance gate to Sesriem and the famous dune landscapes of Sossusvlei. Nestled between the mountains of the Namib, this elegant, privately run lodge offers a peaceful and exclusive atmosphere, far away from larger hotel complexes. The property was opened in 2008 by Thomas and Henreza Becker and was intentionally designed on a small scale to ensure guests enjoy a highly personal experience with plenty of privacy.

Accommodation at Hoodia Desert Lodge
The lodge features eleven spacious, thatched chalets, some designed in the style of luxurious safari tents. These free-standing units are widely spaced across the desert landscape, providing uninterrupted views of the surrounding mountains and plains. Each chalet includes an en-suite bathroom, an additional outdoor shower, air conditioning, a refrigerator, and coffee and tea-making facilities, as well as a private shaded terrace. Large glass fronts bring the striking desert scenery directly into the rooms.
At the heart of the main building is an open lounge with a fireplace, a restaurant, and a stylish bar. A spacious outdoor terrace overlooking the surrounding desert is particularly popular among guests. A shaded pool area offers relaxation during the hot daytime hours. The cuisine combines international dishes with regional influences and Namibian ingredients, creating a varied and locally inspired dining experience.
Activities and tours at Hoodia Desert Lodge
Key activities include guided excursions to Sossusvlei and Deadvlei, where guests can experience the iconic red dunes of the Namib Desert. The lodge also organizes sundowner drives through the desert landscape, nature and wildlife observation tours, and stargazing experiences under Namibia’s exceptionally clear night skies. The guides share insights into geology, desert ecology, and the remarkable adaptations of plants and animals to the extremely arid environment.
