NamibRand Family Hideout
Self-Catering and camping in the Namibrand Nature Reserve
NamibRand Family Hideout is situated in southwestern Namibia within the renowned NamibRand Nature Reserve, one of the largest private conservation areas in southern Africa. This remote retreat lies approximately 110 km south of Sossusvlei. The property originated from a former farm, and many of its historic structures have been carefully preserved. Old fences, livestock enclosures, and farm outbuildings still reflect the area's past as a Karakul sheep farm, giving the property its authentic character.

Accommodation at NamibRand Family Hideout
The centerpiece of the property is a lovingly restored farmhouse available for exclusive use. It accommodates up to ten guests and features three bedrooms, two bathrooms, and a spacious living and dining area. The fully equipped self-catering kitchen includes a gas-powered refrigerator, oven, and deep freezer. Verandas overlooking the vast desert landscape, an indoor fireplace for cool winter evenings, and a nearby waterhole create a relaxed atmosphere for families and small groups. The farmhouse is also largely wheelchair accessible.
The accommodation options are complemented by three shaded campsites named Orion, Venus, and Jupiter, each located in its own secluded dune valley. Each campsite can accommodate a maximum of eight guests and two vehicles and feature modern ablution facilities with hot-water showers, solar lighting, barbecue areas, and private waterholes that regularly attract wildlife and a variety of bird species. The Jupiter campsite also offers an elevated wooden viewing deck, charging facilities for small electronic devices, and fully accessible facilities for guests with reduced mobility.
Activities and tours at NamibRand Family Hideout
Popular activities include hiking through the dune landscape, self-drive 4x4 excursions, wildlife and birdwatching, and sandboarding. The remarkable biodiversity of the Namib Desert can be experienced right on the doorstep, with sightings of oryx, springbok, zebra, bat-eared foxes, and numerous reptile species. Thanks to the exceptionally clear skies and minimal light pollution, stargazing is one of the highlights of any stay. The largely untouched surroundings create a unique sense of space, tranquillity, and complete seclusion.
