Hobatere Lodge
Lodge close to Etosha's Galton Gate
Hobatere Lodge is located in northwestern Namibia, around 65 km north of Kamanjab and only about 17 km from Galton Gate. It is situated within the #Khoadi-//Hôas Conservancy and is closely operated together with the local community: revenue generated through tourism supports conservation projects, creates employment opportunities, and promotes peaceful coexistence between people and wildlife. The concession area borders the western boundary of Etosha National Park, making Hobatere an ideal base for travelers wishing to explore the western section of the famous park.

Accommodation at Hobatere Lodge
After a devastating fire in 2011, the lodge was completely rebuilt with the support of international funding and the involvement of the local community, reopening in 2015. Hobatere Lodge offers a total of 14 rooms, including six classic rondawels with twin beds as well as six bungalows with double beds and private verandas. The accommodations are comfortably furnished and feature en-suite bathrooms with shower and toilet, small seating areas, and tea and coffee-making facilities.
The heart of the lodge is the thatched main building with its restaurant, bar, lounge, and spacious terrace overlooking an illuminated waterhole. A swimming pool provides refreshment on warm days, while fire pits and elevated viewing decks create a particularly atmospheric setting during the evenings.
Hobatere offers a separate Tree House experience in addition to its standard rondawels and bungalows. The elevated tree house is designed for two guests and is located away from the main lodge in a private wildlife area overlooking a waterhole. It is built on two levels, with the sleeping area upstairs and bathroom facilities below. Guests are usually transferred there shortly before sunset and spend the night alone in the bush, equipped with a radio for emergencies, refreshments, snacks, and a cold dinner platter.
Activities and tours at Hobatere Lodge
Among the main activities are morning and afternoon game drives in open safari vehicles. Accompanied by experienced guides, guests can discover the wildlife of the concession area while learning more about the flora, bird-life, and unique landscapes of western Etosha. Elephants, giraffes, lions, eland antelopes, and Hartmann’s mountain zebras are regularly spotted, while night drives offer the chance to observe rare nocturnal animals such as aardwolves, genet cats, and bat-eared foxes that are seldom seen during the day. The lodge is also an excellent starting point for excursions into the western section of Etosha National Park.
